When you are looking for a Veterinary care clinic you should be able to count on superior care and excellent service. At Elk Creek Animal Hospital in Sioux City, IA, we have assembled an expert team of Veterinary professionals to bring you the best possible healthcare for your pet. Elk Creek is a state of the art veterinary facility which is clean, comfortable, and efficient. Since purchasing the clinic in 2012, Dr. Aaron Bessmer has been committed to providing the highest quality and most compassionate medical care to everyone that steps through the door.
Once a year, you should take your pet in for a check-up. This will include a full physical exam and any vaccines that are due. In the exam, Dr. Bessmer will check the health of your pet from head to tail. Annual exams can help detect underlying illness or health issues in its early stages and make sure that your pet is in tip top shape.
We also strongly recommend annual bloodwork for our senior pets aged 8 and up to check organ function and detect early onset illnesses. Also, if your pet should get an illness later on, it is always helpful to have a baseline level to go off of.
Dental care is also one of the most important parts of caring for your pet. Since around 99% of pet owners are not able to regularly brush their pet’s teeth, regular dental cleanings are a must. It varies from pet to pet, but most will need annual cleanings to get rid of plaque and calculus and to prevent Gingivitis, cavities, tooth loss, infection and nasty doggy or kitty breath! If you have any questions or are not sure if it’s time for your pet to get their teeth cleaned, you can always feel free to set up an appointment with Dr. Bessmer to assess your pet’s oral health.
Bring in any medical history you have of your pet when you come to our Vet clinic. It's best to keep a journal of your pet's health throughout his or her life, including behavioral shifts. If you have something like this, share it with our team. If not, let us know everything that you think will be important. Dr. Bessmer can still work with whatever information you have.
